Join us at Arcade Archive as we delve into the fascinating story of Missile Command with Guinness World Champion, Tony Temple.
Launched to critical acclaim in November 1980, Atari’s Missile Command made an enduring impact on the history of arcade video gaming. This classic game played on the fears of nuclear annihilation, captivating audiences worldwide during the height of the Cold War.
Tony will offer a retrospective on the game's creation, from the initial concept to the release of nearly 20,000 arcade cabinets. We will take a detailed journey through the 18-month development process, witnessing the dedication of Atari's industrial designers, engineers, artists, and programmers as they perfected game play and cabinet design.
We’ll explore previously unreleased pictures from Atari’s factory floor, design documents, prototype images and sketches. Learn how the Cold War influenced the game play, which ultimately would haunt its programmer, Dave Theurer. Tony will also share his own unique (and often bizarre) journey with Missile Command, from a humble café in Bristol during the early 80s, and eventually to the hallowed pages of The Guinness Book of World Records.
In addition to live gameplay demonstrations, commentary, and insider tips, Tony will be available to sign copies of his book, "Missile Commander", available to purchase during the day.

Important information
This event is spread across our two venues at Retro Collective.
Arcade Archive is located on the ground floor of the mill. There is a very slight step into the main door, and inside there is a small ramp through a doorway separating the two halves of the exhibit that is 80cm wide.
The Cave is located on the 4th floor of an 18th-century mill, and there are approximately 40 steps up to its entrance. Unfortunately, due to the listed nature of the building, there is no elevator.
Please note that the toilets are located on the 3rd floor and are only accessible via stairs.
